Home is where this jewelry designer mom's heart is
Meet Sharon Reuben, wife of Meet the Jewelers’ founder, Jason, and the designer behind Chérie, a chic line of contemporary and fine jewelry in Los Angeles. Sharon organically became a designer when her passions for craftsmanship and style took over her creative drive after working in fashion.
But it was when she was a teenager that her jewelry fascination began. In that vulnerable time between childhood and adulthood when nothing seems to make sense, what was clear to Sharon was the quality of well-made jewelry and the sentiment behind a jewelry gift.
For a special Mother’s Day jewelry box dive, Sharon tells us about her most treasured pieces:
When I was a teenager, I’d go to a jewelry show with my aunt, mom, and grandmother every year. My aunt would do business (she was a jewelry designer), and we enjoyed looking at all the jewelry together. We met a jewelry manufacturing family from Italy at the show and would see them every year, pour over their new pieces, and learn about how they were made. The father reminded me of the Godfather, but this father was sweet and gentle.
One year, the father showed me a white gold multi-stone earring and ring set and told me, "You need these. These are amazing for you." I laughed; I was intimidated by the diamonds because, well, I was young. My mother got it for me, and to this day, it's still my favorite because of the sweet memory. I'll always have it in my heart because of my mom and all the fun we would have together. The test of a true classic, the set is still in style—I always get compliments on it.
It was these early memories with my mom and aunt that ignited my passion for jewelry. Everything started from my mom's eye—she exposed me to fashion and jewelry at a young age. Going to the jewelry show was how we spent time together, admiring the artistry and just enjoying jewelry.
