Motherly Love: Jewelry By Moms For Moms
Celebrating designer moms
Motherhood is a journey, and like a gemstone, it's multifaceted. We know many jewelers and designers who are moms, and in honor of all the amazing mamas out there, we asked a couple about their journeys and how it's impacted their work. From motherhood being the catalyst to starting their business (Khadijah Fulton of White/Space) to supporting other mothers with collaborations (Zoe Chicco), their motherly love as a driver to keep doing what they love for the people they love is unstoppable.
It’s personal and personalized for mom/designer/writer/curator Nicole Mann Novick at Garland Collection. “Garland Collection originally came about when I designed a nameplate for my first anniversary based on the antique-inspired monogram from my wedding invitation. Personalized jewelry became the cornerstone of my work as my family grew (I have three boys). I’m inspired to design new pieces to commemorate the moments, people, and places that I love—from our date charms and rings with my children's birthdates to gemstone hamsas with our brood's initials.”
Funny enough, it’s Nicole’s kids who help her stay grounded in her work: “My older boys have wisely reminded me to find the time to do more of the creative work that I’ve always been passionate about, rather than focusing on the necessary things that keep a business running.”
For mom/entrepreneur/designer Kristen Baird, her mother’s intuition has become a valuable part of the design process. “Becoming a mother has heightened my intuition in surprising ways,” Kristen told us. “I find myself easily anticipating client's design ideas. This makes my commission process even more delightful and inspired because my mind seems to visualize each custom piece before a client has shared the details with me. My spooky intuition began before I was officially a mom while still pregnant with my son, Paxton.”
Here are some curated pieces from jeweler and designer moms that make for lovely gifts any day, not just Mother’s Day.
P.S. If you haven’t called your mom yet today, get on it.
