Belize 2015

It’s a whole new world under the sea, where time vanishes and life flourishes. Through scuba diving and snorkeling, I’ve had the privilege of seeing underwater creatures in their natural habitat. Fish of every size and color, hustling crabs, hiding eels, friendly turtles, even the elusive hammerhead shark (unreal). Dazzling creatures representing the ocean provide endless inspiration for sea lovers and designers alike in these bejeweled creations.

Herring

Canadian artist Melissa Chen is the designer and mastermind behind Lunar Rain. Inspired by surrealism, art nouveau, ancient Greece and Rome, and nature, the brand currently consists of five collections. Inspired by sunken treasure, the Full Fathom Five collection includes agate infused with underwater icons creating museum-worthy pieces.

Sand Dollar

Designer Beth Yorn’s fascination with ancient jewels led her to take a metalsmithing class and eventually create pieces of her own. Enter Elizabeth Bell, where wildlife and nature, from land to sea, are symbols that show up in her jewelry designs.

Laura Caspi’s eponymous brand delves into the natural world with various metals shaped into pieces that look like the real thing. This lobster claw ring is a perfect example that luxuriously reflects nature.

Begum Khan’s designer Begum Kiroglu has a surreal way of looking at nature, creating stand-out pieces handcrafted by Turkish artisans. Growing up in Istanbul and studying in Shanghai, Begum looks to far-off locales for ideas, but the Orient, Far East, and the Ottoman empire serve as her inspirational homes.
