Secret stash
When I was a kid, I came across a small vintage locket at a festival and blew my entire allowance on it. I was thrilled with the idea of having a secret treasure close to me at all times, even if it was just a picture of my dog. Indeed, lockets are often used to commemorate a special occasion or remember a loved one, but they weren’t always used for photographs. Historically, they were worn by men and women and served several purposes: Some lockets contained perfume-soaked fabric to mask unpleasant smells, others held the ashes or hair of a loved one (a.k.a mourning jewelry). Sometimes they were a stash for poison.
In today’s world of constant exposure, it feels like a luxury to keep something private close to you (and only you). Major gifting points for a locket with a special memento already inside, be it ashes, hair, or a picture of a special pooch.
