The eyes (and lips) have it

Evil eye talismans, intended to ward off negative energy, date back to Ancient Greece, but the latest trend in our sights is something entirely new. We’re finding ourselves face-to-face with earrings, rings, and bracelets that mirror our own visage, giving an entirely new meaning to phrases like “lip ring.” Perhaps it’s a reflection of social media’s selfie culture—or maybe it’s the past year-plus we’ve all spent staring at ourselves on Zoom. Whatever it is, here are some cheeky styles we’ve got our eyes on.

Signet Ring

Master jeweler Shy Dayan’s vision for his eponymous brand is couture quality mixed with fresh, wearable design—as you can see from this eye-catching diamond and ruby signet ring.

Hot Lips

This design is so iconic you can find it in London’s V&A Museum, not to mention adorning the fingers of celebrities like Rihanna and Dua Lipa. Designer Solange Azagury-Partridge is constantly giving her “Hotlips” ring a makeover in new colors. We remain partial to this deep, vampy red.

Evil Eye

Visit Atlanta’s Worthmore Jewelers, and you’re in for an eye-opening experience. It has been voted both “Best in Atlanta” and “Coolest Store in America” by regional and national publications. While you’re there, look out for wow pieces like this necklace to add to your collection.

Mini Lips

Gina and Steven Feldman, the wife/husband team at Auvere, started off on a mission to bring handcrafted high-karat gold into the jewelry world (think 22 and 24 karat). This petite pout proves that sometimes it’s good to give ‘em a little lip.

Auvere “Mini Lips” bracelet in 22k yellow gold, $475 at Auvere

Enamel Eyes

We’ve never seen anything quite like Greek-brand Lito’s signature enamel eye jewelry, rendered in arrestingly realistic detail. The buzz is building for this label so keep your eyes peeled—you’re about to start seeing it everywhere.

Lito 14k yellow-gold, enamel, and black diamond earrings, $2,800 at Moda Operandi

Ruby Lips

As a fourth-generation member of the Fendi family, Delfina Delettrez Fendi has been on everyone’s lips since she launched her own brand in 2007. From surreal, sensual shapes to subversive single earrings (or both, as is the case with this ruby-spangled stud), always expect the unexpected from Delfina.

Delfina Delettrez “Lips” single earring with rubies, $1,778 at Farfetch

Brickface

Master goldsmith and jewelry designer Tony Lent is inspired by “images that are common to humanity.” His creepy-charming work calls to mind the phenomenon of pareidolia—a hardwiring of our brains to recognize the pattern of a human face in clouds, the knots on a tree, or in this case, a solid gold ring.

Anthony Lent “Solid Gold Brickface” signet ring in 18k yellow gold, $4,260 at Anthony Lent
