Woman Power
Shop (and support!) our female designer friends
Jewelry is an industry that has long been dominated by male designers (despite being made mostly for women—go figure). But in recent years, rising female design stars have been shining and sparkling brighter than ever. In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re spotlighting three inspiring women designers who break the mold and take girl power to the next level—shop them on MTJ!
Johannah Masters’s Retro Whimsy
From the age of six, Johannah Masters knew she wanted to work in the fashion industry. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and got her start as a fashion assistant at Gotham magazine. She eventually became the fashion market editor of the New York Post and its luxury supplement, Alexa, covering fashion and accessories and styling celebrities for photo shoots. After almost two decades as a fashion editor, she decided to pursue her love of jewelry by launching her own brand, the Johannah Masters Collection. Drawing on her childhood and penchant for pop culture, her pieces are playful, nostalgic, and perfect for good times ahead.
Kristen Baird’s Southern Charm
Kristen Baird is an award-winning jewelry designer in Savannah, Georgia. Prior to starting her business in 2015, she attended the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Jewelry Design. Originally, she wanted to pursue interior design and architecture, but realized she wanted to be more hands-on with her work. Jewelry making checked all the boxes—technical and scientific, yet creative and deeply personal. Her pieces often feature ethically-sourced gemstones, set in organic shapes and textured surfaces that emulate the beauty of the natural world.
Chérie LA’s Sophisticated Sparkle
Sharon Reuben’s experience working as a fashion stylist helped her realize the jewelry marketplace was lacking in unique, quality pieces at affordable prices. Launched in 2020, Chérie LA is inspired by artsy French vibes paired with an effortlessly-cool LA aesthetic. A jewelry collection that is versatile, wearable, and extremely chic.
