Musician Machine Gun Kelly recently presented actress Megan Fox—a couple known for their fiery antics on and off the red carpet—with a ring as unique and iconoclastic as the duo themselves. The rapper worked with designer Stephen Webster to create a custom ring, imbued with personal symbolism. Featuring two magnetic bands and a pear-shaped diamond and emerald (the couple’s birthstones) designed to join together to form a heart, the pair’s engagement ring is rumored to cost upwards of $500,000.

The dual-stone style is a romantic gesture dating back centuries to another famously incendiary relationship, according to Christina Gandia Gambale, the co-owner of Greenwich St. Jewelers. “Toi et Moi [translating to “you and me” in French] rings date back centuries. Napoleon Bonaparte proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais with a sapphire and diamond two-stone ring in the 1700s."
