Kids’ Art is Forever
Warning: this jewelry might make you cry (in a good way)
The pandemic caused many to reassess what’s important in our lives, and that includes our jewelry. The result: personalized jewelry is one of the biggest trends now, and it can be even more personal than choosing the birthstones of your family to set into a ring. Designers can turn artwork that your child or any family member creates into wearable art, from pendants and earrings to key chains and money clips. Here are three endearing ways to transform one art form into another.
Formia Design
Swedish-trained, Charlottesville-based designer Mia Van Beek started creating kids' art jewelry when her sixteen-year-old daughter was a preschooler. She offers an abundance of creations carefully cut by hand. The process involves choosing what piece of jewelry or accessory you want, the metal, and uploading the artwork. You can discuss any detail with Mia, and add birthstones upon request. Mia sums up her work perfectly: “I have found that what 100% captures the kids’ intentions is staying true to the art.”

Kid Jeweler
Jewelry designer and goldsmith Nicole Landaw started Kid Jeweler in 2019 after having her eponymous brand for decades. How people connect personally to their jewelry was the driving force, and Nicole's approach is different. The customer chooses a kit online then receives everything needed to start their project, like wax instructions and tips, an inspirational guide, and a prepaid return mailer. The customer forms what they want out of the wax, and after it's sent back, it's reproduced with CAD and 3D technology. Voila, your fine piece of jewelry or sculpture that you helped make. Bonus: they archive every piece to replicate or remake later in a different size and material. You can even add diamonds, ahem.

Drawnies
Drawnies is a Germany-based company with an inspiring shopping experience immortalizing your child's artwork. All you have to do is upload any drawing or handwriting on paper, then a designer at Drawnies hand-draws the picture, and it's brought to life as a necklace or keychain plated in your choice of gold. Hello, perfect gifts for parents and grandparents.
