Jewelry Time Warp: The 1920s

Women's right to vote. The jazz age. Prohibition…

The Roaring '20s was a decade of extreme highs and lows. One high was the birth of Art Deco in architecture, furniture, and most notably (for us) jewelry. Originating in France, Deco is one of the most sought-after styles among vintage and antique jewelry lovers, created when people wanted to have fun and let loose amid cultural change. Geometry mixed with diamonds and colored stones was often found in platinum, but today, designers aren't married to one metal, embracing yellow-gold and rose-gold for an evolved aesthetic.

Old European Cut

Considering designer Ashley Zhang creates modern heirlooms, it makes sense that she would also offer fantastic vintage and antique pieces. Each jewel tells a story, and this ring tells you it's an authentic circa 1920 adornment with its mix of green glass and emeralds, both high-demand stones of that time.

Satin Chapter

While Brooklyn-based Valery Brinda may be new-ish, launching in 2020, designers Valery Brinda and Kia Schwaninger have been in the jewelry industry for more than fifteen years. Their made-to-order pieces are designed with ethically-sourced materials, and every detail is meticulously created, like their removable and interchangeable envelope clasps on their bracelets.

Lavalier

Diamonds are essential in Art Deco jewelry, and Doyle & Doyle owners Elizabeth & Irene embrace that fact with this multi-diamond cut necklace. Four Old European cut, two rose-cut, and three single-cut diamonds make for an all-around stunning diamond necklace.

Oui Fringe

Art Deco lovers know they can look to Nikos Koulis for stand-out pieces that reinterpret that time. These fringe beauties say it all and also come in black enamel and white gold, depending on your "throwback" taste.

Pod Pendant

Jolly Bijou started in Brooklyn in 2017 by Caroline after she returned to school to study Jewelry Design at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in New York. She focuses on "clean and rigorous lines" from the Art Deco movement with femininity that shines through her stone and metal choices.

Endless Love

Designer Leehe Segal of Bleecker & Prince knows her way around statement pieces just as much as delicate diamonds. Style this bracelet with a long strand of pearls for a subtle nod to the flapper look.
