Artisan jewelry that embodies the spirit of Santa Fe.

For Karen and Scott Malouf, to live and thrive in Santa Fe was their dream since 1981, when Scott proposed to Karen on a snow-covered road in New Mexico.

The dream was realized in November 2013, when they opened Malouf on the Plaza on the corner of a 400-year-old commercial location: the plaza of Santa Fe.

After owning a part-time home in Santa Fe for years, Scott jumped at the opportunity to take over the retail space where 11 employees stayed on as well as many of the Native American and local artists featured in the previous store.

Owning a store is in Scott’s blood. His grandparents were all immigrants from Lebanon. They came to Texas in the late 1800s and early 1900s, starting as peddlers who visited farms and houses selling their goods. They created a store when they had enough money, raising their families, and educating their kids. After four generations, Scott’s passion for beautiful, meaningful items, took hold when he opened Malouf on the Plaza after working in clothing retail with his father for 35 years.

Respect & Integrity

Respect & Integrity

People go to Santa Fe to find something unique. Known for its Pueblo-style architecture, Santa Fe is a creative arts destination with a strong Native American influence. Art is the commerce of Santa Fe—one of the greatest art cities in the world.

Scott’s store honors Santa Fe’s diverse culture. Malouf on the Plaza works with over 75 Native American and Contemporary jewelry artists. By featuring jewelry, as well as weavings and fashion, Scott has created a world around his values.

Entering Malouf on the Plaza is an individual experience—it’s more like an art gallery than a jewelry store—where you’ll find a high level of quality and aesthetic. From customers to the artists, everyone is treated with respect and integrity at Malouf on the Plaza.

 Artie Yellowhorse & Daughters

“Artie Yellowhorse is a third-generation Navajo family. She has two daughters in the business with her that represent the fourth generation. Her dad was a jewelry-maker and her mom was a weaver. Artie grew up on the side of the road. They had a little Hogan on the side of Route 66 where people would pull in and they would sell what they could sell—that's how they made their living. Artie has evolved into an artist who is sold in about 35 stores across the country. She's one of the few local Navajo silversmiths with popularity outside of Santa Fe. I’m proud of her and her quality. She has risen from humble beginnings to develop a desirable product that could be sold in any jewelry store in the US.”

Wayne Aguilar

“Wayne Aguilar is a young Kiowa or Santo Domingo Pueblo Native American, and generational artist, who lives on the reservation and does a lot of work for the tribe. He's a tribal leader and a spiritual leader. Wayne has a turquoise tradition inherited from his father, and he also has a creative side. I've acquired some over-the-top turquoises, in size, quality, and extraordinary color, and he can just turn those pieces out. They're all one-of-a-kind pieces, and people buy them almost as quickly as Wayne can get them done. He lives his art while also helping his community.”

MALOUF ON THE PLAZA GIVES BACK

“We try to help everybody, whether it's a pet shelter, homeless shelter, or education for our Native American community. We keep a certain percentage of our sales that we devote to giving back to the community.”
